The Experience

A wave you can check from camp. A host who knows when to move.

Asu Camp sits among palms on the northern tip of Asu Island, west of Nias. The camp looks straight at the left, so the morning check happens before you finish your coffee.

Private bungalows, shared meals, cold drinks, camp-wide WiFi, beach time, and boat runs when another wave looks better. Simple trip. Good water. No pretending.

Surf

Built around Asu's left.

The front wave is why people come: fast, powerful, and mechanical over reef. If wind or swell says look elsewhere, Earl knows the nearby options and when it is worth burning fuel to check them.

Trip windows

Pick the window. Let Earl read the week.

Asu does not run like a big resort calendar. You come when your dates work, Earl looks at the swell, and the trip bends around what the ocean is doing.

Longer stays are available. Ask Earl if you have more time.

6 nights

A week away

Fly into Nias early, get picked up, make lunch on Asu, and surf that afternoon. Then you have five full surf days: double or triple sessions out front when Asu is on, or speedboat runs when another wave is better.

Best when you have one clean week.

The standard trip

This is the popular one because it gives the swell a little room to breathe. Most guests on this window surf a handful of different waves around the neighborhood, depending on wind, tide, and how much energy is left in the tank.

The safe bet for a real surf window.

Lagundry Strike Mission

Stay mostly at Asu, then head down to Lagundry Bay when the charts line up for that right. Show up when it is pumping, bail when it is over, and keep Asu or Bawa in play if the wind changes.

For surfers who want Earl reading the whole neighborhood.

Stay

Private bungalows, reef out front, camp life between sessions.

The camp is intentionally small, with a maximum of eight guests. Bungalows are ocean-view and air-conditioned, with mosquito nets, hot water showers, outside showers, surfboard racks, terraces, and hammocks.

Field Notes

Wave first.
Camp simple.
Earl knows.

This is a surf camp, not a resort. Come for the wave, the island, and the slower rhythm between sessions.

The front wave is fast, powerful, and breaks over live coral reef. Intermediate and advanced surfers will get the most out of it.

Earl has spent years watching the Hinakos change with swell, wind, tide, and moon. That is the difference here.

There are no roads or cars on Asu Island. Boat, bike, foot, hammock. That is about the pace.

Camp roll

The quiet parts are part of the trip.

A few frames from the edges of the day: the rooms, the beach, the food, the sunset, and the small camp feel between surfs.
